Golden Aurochsen
The aurochs was a huge wild ox that thrived across Eurasia during prehistory and early history. If you ever see large bulls in cave paintings, those are aurochsen. These animals were sadly brought to extinction by overhunting, destruction of their natural habitats, and disease transmitted by domestic cattle, with the last aurochs being killed in Europe in the seventeenth century. The golden aurochsen are considered angelic spirits of these ancient beasts, taken in by a race of angels who treated them with great respect and love out of pity for their miserable fate in this world. The exposure to these angels and their homeworld has transformed them into angelic beings themselves. They are easily recognized by their golden horns and the golden sheen to their hides, which can range from a slightly shimmery cream to a pure gold color. Their eyes usually glow blue. Golden aurochsen are extremely large and sturdy beasts, reaching roughly six feet tall at the shoulder, and can easily knock huge trees over and smash boulders with their horns. Speaking of, the horns of a golden aurochs are massive, usually curving upward from the head like a recurve bow, and both males and females have horns. The horns of a male golden aurochs usually have a three-foot span. Golden aurochs take great pride in their horns and decorate them with bells, windchimes, pendants, and other trinkets that hold sentimental value to them.
Golden aurochs are shapeshifters, and can easily transition between their bovine form and a bipedal minotaur-like form with large wings. In this form, they are also quite large, reaching seven feet tall in most cases, though this does not count their horns, which could add another foot or more onto their height depending on how sharply they are curved. They are also quite stocky in this form as well, with broad shoulders and hips and visible musculature. In their bipedal form, they are often draped in long, loose robes, usually in jewel tones like blue, red, or green. Despite their large size and somewhat intimidating appearance, there is no reason to be intimidated by a golden aurochs! They are exceptionally gentle creatures and are very family-oriented. They love to be around others that they feel need their help. They are naturally drawn to negativity, though negative energy makes them uneasy. They do their best to keep negativity away from their keeper and the rest of their family, which isn't a particularly difficult job given the soft, positive aura they radiate and the way the jingling of the adornments on their horns expels negativity from the immediate area. They try to be comforting in times of suffering, and they always do their best to be there for their keeper whenever they can. Golden aurochsen are exceptionally intelligent creatures and enjoy having conversations, whether deep or frivolous, or serving as a teacher to their companions. They tend to be well-versed in magic, though the type of magic varies from individual to individual. I have yet to see an aurochs that specializes in something darker-arts, however, so I feel they try to stay closer aligned to the white arts side of the spectrum. They are also very loving, though some may not outwardly show it. |
